Biography

Biography

Claudio Rocchetti is one of the most active european avant musicians of the last half decade. Apart from his main solo project he is also part of 3/4HadBeenEliminated with Tricoli and Pilia, half the duo Olyvetty with visual artist Riccardo Benassi an he melts togheter with noise-funk duo G.I.Joe and Stefano Pilia into In Zaire power quartet. He also played in projects with Jooklo Duo (as Hypnoflash), double bassist Klaus Janek and with Mattin, Bowindo, Fabio Orsi and MB among others.
His work is mainly focused around concrete pastiches as the result of hardware live manipulation, turntable feedbacks and various recorded sources and objects.

He released records on Hundebiss, Hapna, Die Schachtel, Presto?!, Soleilmoon and Holidays Records.
He is also the founder (with Kam Hassah) of Musica Moderna, a label focussed on field recordings, sound poetry and sound art (musica-moderna.org)

The work of Claudio Rocchetti is a deep plunge into thick sound, investigating its innermost workings. Using a variety of devices such as turntables, audio cassettes, samplers, radios, and microphones, often incorporating other objects and traditional instruments, Berlin-based Rocchetti builds compelling structures that employ sound as sheer matter, mass, and impact. The tarry, mesmerizing hues that characterize his “music objects” are grounded in layers of sound detritus.
From techno rhythms to slow melodies, edgy constructions to samples of choirs and strings, Rocchetti builds layered structures of elusive elements whose sources are often hidden, and enacts a mirror play which may cause dizziness.

(Musicworks)

For some time now Claudio Rocchetti has been one of the most active and interesting electronic musicians in national and European scenes: be it because of his research on sound, as an emotional and compositional element, but also materially on analogical and electronic instruments, or because of his technical, improvisational and expressive capabilities be it in the studio or live, and the tight net of collaborations and participants active between Bologna and Berlin.
